Abbeycare Foundation transforms rehab care and productivity with Sandomu Platform

The Abbeycare Foundation, which runs specialist addiction recovery clinics in Newmarket, Suffolk, and in the historical Murdostoun Castle in Lanarkshire, has implemented the Sandomu platform to help manage the rehabilitation programmes they provide to their patients and to reduce the volume of paper-based records being generated by their previous manual systems.

 

Paul Bowley, Managing Director of the Abbeycare Foundation, was looking for ways to make the two facilities owned by the foundation more effective businesses. The Foundations two locations are geographically distant and were managed using paper forms, manually updated by the clinic staff, and the data captured into spreadsheets. The information was fractured, unstructured and took time to arrive at his desk in a form he could use effectively. His staff spent an inordinate amount of their time updating the forms, time which would be much better spent caring for the clients and patients undergoing treatment at the facilities.

 

Paul discussed the problems with Ian Mallam, Managing Director of Digitav Limited. Ian explains, “Our Sandomu platform was the right fit for Paul and the Abbeycare clinics. Being cloud based, all staff can access the system as and when they need to, and Paul is able to get a structured, instant view of the state of play in the two facilities whenever he needs. “

 

Paul adds “The portal has had a significant positive impact on our business in that it has substantially increased our efficiency and productivity, it has vastly reduced the amount of physical paperwork our staff undertake and it has given all of our sites the ability to access information remotely.” Because the solution is web based, staff can gain access to the sections they need on the devices they are most familiar with; mobile smart phones, tablets or computer system. “The best thing about it is its simplicity. It’s quick and easy to train new staff to use it. There is little to no training required. It’s all self-explanatory.”

 

The objective of reducing paperwork was achieved to a significantly measurable level. “We were 90 percent paper based but we have managed to reduce this to somewhere in the region of 25%.”

 

A further advantage of the Sandomu solution for Abbeycare is the modular framework of the platform which allows additional modules to be developed and “bolted on”. Looking into the future for other functionality he would like to see added, Paul said, “We have already discussed a bolt on to allow the therapy team to add their own notes and the key workers to do the same. We hope to commence this early in the new year.” Overall, the implementation of the Sandomu platform has helped Paul improve the running of the Abbeycare clinics and has helped improve the treatment regimens executed at the facilities. Paul concludes, “We have plans to add further services to the Sandomu systems and look forward to working closely with Ian and his team in the future.”
